That night after he dropped off Annabel, his phone began to vibrate in the cupholder. When he answered it, his friend Bailey was on the phone, asking him for a ride because her car broke down. When he went to pick her up, she laid down a specific schedule she had to follow, the first thing including going to the tattoo shop. When he watched her get an exquisite tattoo on her ribs that said 'One Love" in fancy bubble letters with blue script in it, he had an idea. He booked an appointment for the next day and decided to call Annabel once he got Bailey home and her car to the garage.
He dialed her number and waited for her to answer.

Her phone, of course, rang in the doctor's office. The hard rock of F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. hit the silent air with an astonishing volume. Tons of old baby boomers looked oddly in her direction. []
Grumbling about sports physicals, she went outside and checked the id. It was Kaleb. So all her annoyance immediately vanished. Hey, you sure know how to pick your timing. I thought I was going to get accosted by a bunch of seventy year olds, but I think I could have held them off. What's up? And why do I hear a tatoo needle in the background? Her friends in New York were very ink-savvy. She could recognize that buzzing din from miles away.

[AHH! Fall of Troy ] He laughed, expecting a hello or something, but not surprised he got a greeting of a different tone. He walked around the tattoo shop, his hand held over his left ear, trying to tone out the extra sound vibrating through his ears. He decided to step outside before he began talking. [Yo...well...err...where are you?] He was a little curious. As she heard the tattoo gun in the background from where he was from, he heard the tacky elevator music from wherever she was. He laughed a little. [Im getting a tattoo but I want your opinon before I get it. I can't really describe it...it's kinda weird...so I was thinking I could pick you up from your elevator and bring you to the tattoo shop?] He laughed, a smile on his face as he waited for her reply. The girl in the shop mouthed off something like 'Girlfriend?' and Kaleb shook his head, mouthing back 'friend' to her and she nodded, returning to her tattoo.

She chuckled. She had a talent for weird greetings. I am at the doctor's office. But I could totally be spring...can you feel my damsel in distress vibes? But I'm supposed to be evaluated today for sports--with my obvious phychological history they want to make sure I'm not still suicidal--and I think you can vouch for that.
I would absolutely love to look at your tattoo and tell you about all the crap in tattoo ink that will eventually kill you. Because that's just how amazing I am.
She told him directions to get to the doctor's office and hopped into his car with a huge grin as the random old people gaped. She laughed like she hadn't in so long, with her hair long and whipped from the wind. She felt carefree. It was weird.

Kaleb laughed, talking as he went into his car, putting the keys into the ignition of the Aston Martin, and pulling out of the parking lot. He listened to her directions and made his way over there eventually. When he pulled up to the doctors office a bunch of old cronies stared at him, as he reached across the street to unlock the door on the passengers side and driving off as Annabel got in.
[Now, let me kow if I actually CAN Vouche for you, because I really dont think your suicidal, and if you are i think I'd have to keep my eye on you all the time. And as for damsel in distress...I didn't really think you were in a stressful situation...but I do have a nice for that. I think.]
He laughed, turning around out of the doctors office parking lot, driving down the highway hitting 70 easily, shifting into 4th gear, his engine revving, and the wind blowing papers around in the back. His Math homework shimmied out of his backpack and he grabbed it before it had time to get out the window, then slowed down a bit. [Now, if you really think about it, theres alot more than just tattoo ink that will kill you. Like the sun. That too... But you never answered my question.]
Making a right onto the interstate and driving onto a ramp, ending up back in the city. He decided to turn up his music, What Sound Does A Mastadon Make? blaring through the fiberoptic speakers and awakening the town. He pulled over onto the side of the road, at the tattoo shop. He decided to ask her again about getting a tattoo, even though she was warning him about the ink and everything.
[Yes or no to a tattoo...i need to know now so I can tell my friend.]
He unbuckled and got out of the car, shutting the door and hitting the lock key after she got out. He walked into the tattoo shop and into the back. He hugged his friend and smiled, moving to the tattoo chair.
[This is Annabel. Shes my girlfriends best friend. Shes 18.]
He informed his friend and took off his shirt, and pointed to a picture of Thors hammer on the wall next to the chair.
He asked, waiting before he let his friend get the gun all pumped up.

I raised my eyebrows. Wow, Kaleb. Personally, I like it. I'm sure Bella will just have an orgasm where she stands when she sees. I fought back tears of laughter as he blushed full red.
I thought. I wasn't really a tatoo person, to be honest, but there was one I'd always wanted to try...
She spotted the familiar characters. Kaleb didn't know she was bilingual, time to scare him. ;D Mina saika? Soreraha nippon no tokusei wo yuusu ru. Hotondono basho ni chuugokugo gaarutada., she said, laughing as he looked at her oddly.
She pointed out the two characters she was looking at. See? Anki means fate. I've always wanted that on my wrist.
[[stupid Riscendo doesn't recognize Japanese characters! So I had to write all that in Romanji, which is like...Japanese in Roman characters, like English. Not fun.]]

He gasped a little and blushed. Great. Envoking sexual pleasures in his girlfriend may just be as easy as lifting his shirt... He held his hand over his eyes and shook his head, a smile on his face.
[Annabel...]
He warned, still chuckling at the thought though. He made a gaping face when she began speaking a totally different language than that offered at Riscendo.
[Im not even going to attempt to guess what your saying...]
He said, positioning himself in the tattoo chair while his friend set up the ink and the machine. He wiped down his chest with some antibacterial stuff and started revving the gun again, but it wasn't quite loud enough to block out the sound of Annabels talking.
[Well, im Sure he'd do it today. I mean...well...not Jack. Max would be doing it I think...]
Kaleb motioned to the guy at the desk and made a gesture for Annabel to go ask him if he could do it. He probably would It was a bit dead here for a Tuesday.

I grinned at Kaleb mischieviously. Don't worry. Soreha warui nande modenakatta. It wasn't anything bad. I walked over to the guy. He looked maybe eighteen? Nineteen? I caught the look on his face as he glanced at me. I glanced at myself, wondering what was so off today about me.
Ah, that was it. I had slept over at Bree's last night, and of course all her stuff was designer. So I had ended up in her intentionally ripped and bleach-stained Abercrombie jeans and jacket, since Bree loved to play dress-up with me. Otherwise I'd probably have left the dorm in my bra and running sweats.
So that's what he was seeing. This little happy blonde sunshine teeager with too much money and not enough brain. Hmm...everyone called me beautiful. Maybe I should use that to my advantage?
I grinned and shurgged out of my jacket, showing him my Fall of Troy shirt, the one thing of mine that was at Bree's dorm. He did a double take. I tried not to grin. I let my hair out of its bun and it fell around my shoulders.
I leaned forward, letting my neckline open a little. I saw him glance down. Hey, you wouldn't mind doing me, would you? I asked, my face only so far from his.
He saw the double meaning of my words and looked down again. I striaightened and leaned back up, taking his view. Sure, he said a little shakily. Just hang on a second...you want the Japanese fate thing right?
I nodded, and he went to the back for a second. As I passed Kaleb I murmured, Watashi ha masuta dearu. I am a master.
I rubbed some of the antibacterial stuff on my left wrist and held it out for Max to do his thing. He raised an eyebrow at the scars and I shrugged. Mine was only the one color and much less complicated than Kaleb's, so I was done before him. I leaned against the front desk and watched the ink glimmer in the fading light of day. Something bumped my side gently. It was Max, looking awkward. One look at his face told me what he wanted. Using my right hand awkwardly, I wrote down my number for him and stuck it in his back pocket with a little wink. I saw Kaleb raise an eyebrow as he walked up. I waited patiently for him to say whatever he was going to. I liked listening to Kaleb.

Kaleb had just glanced over at Annabel to see what she was blabbering about over there. His chest was starting to hurt and the ink run crimson, but he dismissed it and let his friend continue. He gave Annabel a saucer eyed stare at her words. She would never learn...would she? He rolled his eyes and gripped the chair as the needles pulsed against his sternum. It didn't help that he was skinny and his abs were the only muscles he really had besides his 'V', the needles just punched in to find the sturdy bone preventing them from extending down farther.
[Annabel...]
He said, shooting her a look but then smiling and shaking his head. His tattoo was almost done, the black making his skin look whiter than it really was. He did do a double take on Annabel when she took off her jacket. That was different. He furowed his eyes, wondering where that clothing came from.
When his tattoo was finally done he paid the 1500 and got the medication then went to see Annabels.
[Sacr tissue hurts the worst...]
He said, seeing the faint trace of scar that the tattoo couldn't cover. The raised skin made it look a little more painful. He had a couple of scars on his chest, a few that the needles hit and caused to bleed. He looked at Annabel writing her number down and said what he was thinking before..
[Max really has it in for him. I should warn him.]
he said and toyed with his keys in his pocket before opening the door to the shop to leave.

I glared at Kaleb playfully. So I couldn't take care of myself could I? Fine then. I was feeling reckless anyways.
Hey Max, I called, walking up to him. He turned, and I grabbed his shoulders and laid a good one on him. My lips stayed on his for long seconds, and I felt his tongue brush mine...
Smiling, I broke the kiss and ran back to Kaleb's car. Thanks! I called behind me. I looked over at Kaleb. He looked like his eyes were going to pop out. I smiled crookedly.
Yeah, the scars hurt a little bit...but hey, isn't that just more incentive for me not to reopen them? And thanks so much for paying for mine...that could have gotten bad, with my obvious illegal age-ness.

He smirked and glared at her a bit, locking his car and putting his key in the ignition, pulling off the street. He had Motion City Sountrack playing, Last Night pulsing through the speakers. He decided not to talk to her for a bit, but figured she didn't want to go back to the doctors office. He shifted into 4th gear and sped up on the highway, then turned off into the state park, going on the windy roads at 50+ mph, but he was in complete control. He finally pulled over where he could and just chilled in the car, pushing his seat back so he was laying. He laughed a little and shook his head.
[You are such a
whore!]
He said, looking at her. He was a little curious about the boy she was talking about before.
[So what happened to the other guy? And your lucky Max was there. If you would have made out with Jack like that he probaby would have tried to get in your pants. Max waits till the second date.]
He joked and turned off hte heat.

I laughed. I am a whore. At least I'm comfortable with my whoreiness. I said, grinning at him.
I thought. Mmm...my other guy. Watashi ha kare ga rikai surukotowo nozomu. I hope he understands. But I haven't heard from him in awhile, so I don't know. He's not my boyfriend--at least, not yet--so I don't think he'll mind.
I raised an eyebrow at him. In any case, Max is kind of hot. And has my bilingual-ness scared you yet?

Kaleb rolled his eyes again, glaring at her as he stuck out his tounge.
[Didn't I tell you something about this? At the coffee shop or whatever? Guys have feelings too. But we're more likely to just throw the girl away and get another if she goes screwing around with other guys.]
He said, his eyes closed as he relaxed on his seat and nodded to her question.
[The part that scares me is the fact that you might be blatently harassing me and I would never know. And Max is 21. Not only are you illegal to begin with, now your extremely illegal. But I wont tell anyone. You just cant lie to Max like that.]
He said. His phone started to vibrate in his pocket and he pulled it out, shooting Annabel a look before he answered it. Max.
[Yo. Yeah. Uhh...yeah we'll be in in a couple minutes. Yep. Cya.]
He hung up the phone and pulled his seat up and adjusted his mirror, turning the key in the ignition and taking it out of park.
[Max says you forgot your lotion? Im starting to wonder if he 'forgot' to give it to you or if you 'forgot' to take it...]
He gave her a skeptical look and headed out of the state park and back onto the highway, then took an exit off and went back into the town. He couldn't help thinking about Bella and what she would think about his tattoo. Let alone what Annabels parents would say to her tattoo. Alot of the girls parents here were really strict on tattoos...they all expected them to be runway models or something and couldn't have tattoos that would disgust people. If they did have a tattoo, you normally couldn't see them because they were hidden beneath their skimpy clothes. He didn't think she was going to really care about what her parents think. Not like she was going to be a runway model or anything...more like a professional athlete.
He parked his car outside the shop behind Max's Posche and went in, locking his car after Annabel got out. He waited for her at the door and opened it for her.

I shrugged. Relax, Kaleb. Sorehasorenoyou imi suru nande modenai. It's not like it means anything. And I'm not harassing you...I'm not really the harasser type. And I always tell you what I say.
Besides, you know all that age-legality stuff was only made to protect little girls' virginity from the big scary men in the world so they'd be all pure when they got married at twelve or whatever. I personally, as you know, am perfectly capable of taking care of myself, so no worries. I raised my eyebrows innocently as he glared at me.
I spoke playfully innocent. Lotion? Do you think I actually carry around lotion? I don't even have ChapStick! I think he's made it all up to see me again, I said, spreading my long hair over the back of his seat.
When we pulled up I winked at Kaleb, punching his shoulder, not hard enough to hurt but enough so he'd feel it. I'll take care of this, I said, my eyes glinting mischieviously.
I walked back in and Max handed me a little bottle of lotion, his hand brushed mine and our eyes met for a second. I was beginning to think maybe Kaleb was right. Maybe I was in over my head...?
As a walked away his hand slid something in my back pocket, lingering there for a second before he pulled it out. I turned to look at him as I walked away, he smiled.
It looked like I was going to get another scolding from Kaleb, so I took the little piece of paper out of my pocket and looked at it. Kaleb peeked over my shoulder obviously. Osekkaina taizai! Stay away nosy!

He rolled his eyes and went back into his car, waiting for her to return from the shop. He rubbed his chest gently, the raised skin itchy under his cotton shirt. He put his hand on his knee, moving it up and down in a rhythmic pattern to 'Let's Get Fucked up and Die'. He watched Annabel slink into the shop and flirt with Max right from the get go. He shook his head and looked out his window at the road. There were a couple people walking their dogs and skateboarding and...
Annabel had just come in the car. He raised his eyebrows at the note and leaned over to read it. He gave her a curious look and poked her side.
[Show me. Or I'm taking you out to the country and making you walk home.]
He threatened, poking her side again, smiling. He looked back to the shop window to see Max just chillin by the door, watching what they were doing. Kaleb shook his head at Max, smiling like he couldn't believe him and pulled the note from Annabels hand.

There were only five words on it in a neat scrawl I wouldn't have pegged for Max. The Lake, tonight. Midnight. Max. I said, shrugging, ignoring how my heart was going to soon leave my body. Soo...I guess I'm safe 'cause of that whole second date thing right? I looked at Kaleb hopefully and only a little teasingly.
I rubbed my face. God. You're right. I am an idiot.

He laughed and shook his head again, pulling out of the parking space and back onto the road.
[Chill. Max is cool...i just don't know how he'll take to a 15 year old if he finds out. Your not an idiot either. This is kinda my fault because I told him you were 18 too. Just chill it'll be cool.]
He said, turning onto the street by the Lake and speeding up, going by the lake and the little shops until he pulled into a long driveway that met with a 4 car garage and a huge log cabin. The yard was decorated with spruce trees on the boarder and maple along the driveway, dasies blooming all aorund the house. He hit a button under his console which opened the door to the garage and drove in. He parked the car and got out, walking to the door and going inside.
[Come in.]
He said, putting his backpack on the floor and waited for her as he hit the button to close the garage door.

I wasn't letting him take the fall for this one. I hope so. I groaned as we pulled up and Kaleb looked at me oddly. Your house is so much nicer than the dorms, I explained. I need to grow up faster. I hated being the baby and it was starting to get to me.
I walked inside his house. I poked my head in the door cautiously. Hey, I'm not going to find Bella like, looking for her clothes in here am I? I asked, in all seriousness. I dodged his keys when he threw them at me.

He shrugged and walked to the kitchen, getting a couple grapes and popping them into his mouth.
[Want some?]
he put another in his mouth and went to the living room, turning on the tv and sitting on the sofa that seemed to enevlope the room. He heard Annabels comment on Bella and glared at her again.
He rolled his eyes, standing up and going down some stairs into the basement, the tv on upstairs still. He got his skateboard and went into a secluded room where there was a drained pool and a couple of grinding bars. He did a few tricks, a little bored, then jumped off and let his board roll to the bottom of the pool. He looked at Annabel and shrugged.
[What do you suppose we do?]

I glared straight back. It's good to know, that you're not some kind of asshole. I watched him do his thing on the ramp wistfully, wishing I was allowed to skateboard.
When he asked me what I wanted to do I smiled mischieviously. Soreha fukanzen ni kiko eru. That sounds sketchy. I said. But then I shrugged. We could think of what I'm going to say to Max. Or that could be annoying. I've always wanted to board, and I'm not afraid of more bruises. Wanna teach me?
