Haven ws not happy with Bree for dragging her from her warm bed and forcing her into a salon for a day of primping and makeup. Even more so was Bree's sly avoidance of all her questions.
And now, fully beautified and styled in a little black dress Bree had forced on her, Haven finally had her answer.
Bree and Jeremy's graduation party. Or rather, their kickoff for their senior year. She saw Annabel in a corner, thoroughly beautified and looking just as uncomfortable as Haven. Annabel was the star athlete of the family, and her place was in tennis shoes and atheletic shorts. Seeing her in heels with her hair in an updo was stunning, but unnerving. She smiled and waved her over.
Bree drag you away from Jacob for a day? she asked, a slight smile in her ice blue eyes.
Ugh, yeah. I never would have left my dorm if I knew makeup was involved.
Annabel laughed.
Eventually Haven bid her goodbye and wandered around the ancient mansion that all these Riscendo bashes were thrown in. She looked at the beautiful old stone carvings with wide eyes as she came to the back gardens.
Light lit the shadows in the mazes and the hedges, with twinkling garlands wrapped around the stairs. She was just at the center fountain hen a hand caught her and gathered her to him. She looked up. It was Chase, a guy she knew pretty well from her classes.
Hey, beautiful, he said, his voice warm in husky in the glow of the lights.
She laughed it off. Yeah, Bree hijacked me for a day. So what brings you to the extravagant Fisher senior kick-off?
He brought his lips to her ear and started kissing her neck. You, he said, his voice warm and husky still.
She was sure he was playing with her, and she tried to shove him off, but he pinned her arms to her sides and forced her aginst the wall of the garden's stone gate.
The stone bit into her back and she struggled as hard as she could. Come on Haven. I know you want me, he murmured into her hair.
She pushed and shoved, until he shoved her into the wall, hitting her face and bloodying her nose. He forced her onto the ground, climbing on top of her.
Haven panicked. She'd never even had sex with Jacob, the boy who practically owned her own soul. No! she shouted, but he covered her mouth.
As he stared to unzip his pants and pushed up her skirt, she kicked and kicked harder and and pushed up off against him with her hands as best as she could.
He smashed her head into the wall, blood smearing across the post.
Lights came across and he jumped up and ran. Haven tried to hold on...dizzy, dizzy, and fell into the dark.
Annabel's attention was caught as soon as she saw Haven's bright red hair against the gate. She ran over, knowing Haven's fragile status with Jacob. She hoped she wouldn't do anything...
Oh, God.
Annabel fished out her cell phone and dialed 911.
"Hello, 911, what is your emergency?"
"It's my cousin, I..." she was panicking.
"Ma'am?"
"She's breathing, and she's got a pulse, but she's all bloody and her arms at this weird angle...she's unconscious and.."
"Ma'am? What's your location?"
"I'm in Riscendo's Old Hall (couldn't think of a name sorry), in the beginning of the maze. And...I think she might of been secually assaulted." No way would Haven have her skirt that high. Ever.
"An ambulance is coming immedietly."
Annabel rested back and sighed. She smoothed the hair back from Haven's face, and for once she began to cry. Cry big hiccuping sobs that brought back the last night she spent in New York.
Ambulance lights appeared on the horizon. She sighed, and wiped the tears off her face before signaling to the EMTs her location.
